Paul Rea
President of PCR Designs / Engineer
Paul Rea earned his Bachelor of Engineering degree with a concentration
in computer engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology. During
his time at Stevens he was General Manager of the campus radio station,
chief engineer for both the radio and television studios. During
his tenure at the radio and television studios he re-designed the
broadcast and IT infrastructure of both these facilities, redesigned
the acoustic treatment in the broadcast studios, and added a live
production studio to the radio station infrastructure. Paul re allocated
the radio station's budget to start a mobile DJ unit designed to
bring a steady income to the station as well as pay DJs for their
time running sound. This mobile dj unit became responsible for 98
percent of all live sound reinforcement on Stevens campus and continues
today. Paul was responsible for sound reinforcement for live event
radio station broadcasts, and running audio for multi-camera video
recordings.
Paul held positions as CTO and VP of the startup company Castle
Point Records, working to show the company's viability and future
direction given the recording industry's current situation, and
secure funding given these hardships.
Paul worked for the Pearl River School District as a network technician
supporting the 7000 client LAN and rewiring its server closets improving
airflow and reducing system downtime. Paul also interned at ADP
and was responsible for IT support services for its national sales
team where he developed an update alert system for the remote user
base.
Throughout Paul's college years he was designing a “smart” automation
system which would become his senior design project at which point
he became heavily involved in making this system come to life. This
system, involving hardware design, software, database, and web programming,
has been developed as a low cost feature rich alternative to existing
automation systems. The first prototype of this new intelligent
system was switched on in November 2005.
Continuing his engineering experience at The Systems Group, Paul
has been involved in the WGBH project, supporting the installation
and engineering teams, and helping assemble the system documentation.
He held a key role in the WGBH Theater, testing its infrastructure
and design. Paul has also designed WNYC Radio's live production
room and their prided performance space. Commanding an equipment
budget of 1.2 million dollars, these rooms are truly state of the
art. Combining traditional analog control rooms with the all digital
facility Paul managed a flexible design allowing for multiple uses
of the rooms. The rooms can turn from radio broadcast rooms to a
recording studio setup with the press of a button. These rooms have
been designed with the client's current work flow in mind yet allow
for future growth and expandability.
Paul is a member of IEEE, and remains active with the Stevens Alumni
Association.
